Why a clinician may recommend it

Insulin replaces or supplements what the body cannot provide. It can relieve symptoms and reduce glucose toxicity. The reason and expected duration should be explained.

Safe technique

Use the correct device and dose, rotate injection sites, use a fresh needle when possible and know how to dispose of sharps. Ask for a demonstration rather than learning by trial and error.

Know your low-glucose plan

Recognize sweating, shaking, hunger, confusion or unusual behaviour. Carry a fast-acting glucose source and make sure family knows what to do.

Frequently asked questions

Can insulin be stopped?

Sometimes, depending on why it was started and how your diabetes changes. Only reduce or stop it with clinical guidance.

Does insulin damage kidneys?

No. Kidney disease can change insulin needs, so doses may need closer review.
