Why averages can hide important details

The same HbA1c can come from steady readings or a mix of highs and lows. Glucose logs or sensor data can reveal timing, variability and low sugar that HbA1c cannot.

How often is it checked?

Clinicians commonly repeat HbA1c more often when treatment is changing or control is above the agreed target, and less often when results are stable. Your plan may differ.

Turn the report into a plan

Review adherence, meal pattern, activity, weight, low-glucose episodes and medicine safety. The goal is lower long-term risk without making daily life unsafe or unmanageable.

Frequently asked questions

Can HbA1c change in one week?

Recent glucose affects it, but HbA1c reflects a longer period. One good week usually does not represent the full result.

Is lower always better?

No. A very low target can increase hypoglycaemia for some people. Targets should be individualized.
