Assess risk before fasting

A pre-fast review considers recent low or high glucose, insulin and sulfonylurea use, kidney disease, pregnancy, older age, acute illness and the length and conditions of the fast. Some people should not fast for medical safety.

Adjust timing only with clinical guidance

Meal and medicine times change during a fast, and some doses may need adjustment. Create a written plan covering monitoring, hydration outside fasting hours, food portions, activity and exactly when to break the fast.

Festival meals still need a pattern

Do not arrive extremely hungry, then compensate with a very large meal. Start with water if allowed, choose a balanced plate, keep sweets deliberate and continue monitoring if your treatment carries a low-sugar risk.

Frequently asked questions

Does checking glucose break a religious fast?

Medical guidance supports glucose monitoring during fasting; for a religious ruling, consult a trusted religious authority alongside your clinical team.

Can I take the same doses at different times?

Not automatically. Changing only the clock can create lows or highs. Obtain a medicine-specific plan before fasting.
